Metrebus and Tap&Go
The Metrebus Card is the rechargeable card for Rome Metro passes. Here’s how to get one, check your balance, and recharge it—or pay on the go with contactless.
Metrebus Card or contactless?
In Rome, there are two ways to ride the metro without a paper ticket. The first is Tap&Go: simply hold a contactless card, smartphone, or smartwatch up to the turnstiles and pay €1.50 per ride, with a daily cap of €8.50 applied automatically.
The second is the Metrebus Card, a personal, rechargeable electronic card that can be loaded with monthly and annual passes (as an alternative to the new èRoma card). For those who travel every day, a pass is the best value; for occasional trips, the BIT or the Tap&Go is sufficient.
How to Get a Membership Card
How to get the Metrebus Card
- At the ATAC counter in major stations (Termini, Anagnina, Battistini, Laurentina, Ponte Mammolo…) with a passport photo and a form of ID.
- Online via the MyAtac personal account, by entering your information and uploading a photo.
- Alternatively, activate the èRoma card or register a contactless card on the MyAtac “white list” to use Tap&Go with a spending summary.
The Metrebus Card is personal and registered to a specific individual: it stores your passes, and if lost, the remaining pass credit can be recovered. A replacement costs €7.00.
