How the time is worked out
Where the minutes come from
From the running times in Atac's official GTFS: for each hop between two stops we take the median of every trip, not a made-up average speed.
What a change costs
Each change adds 4 minutes. That is the walk between platforms, not the wait for the train: that depends on the time of day and is on each station page, which gives the frequency band by band.
What is NOT included
Waiting on the platform, getting from the street to the gates, and queues at the barriers at peak times. For a journey with a deadline, add a margin.
Where you can change
Only at the network's four interchange stations: Termini (A/B), San Giovanni (A/C), Colosseo (B/C) and Bologna (B/B1). There are no others, which is why some journeys that look short on the map all go through the centre.
