What is changing on the network: closures, engineering works, timetables and fares, with dates and sources.
This is where we keep track of real changes to the service: closures for works, timetable changes, fare decisions and construction on the extensions. Every entry carries the period it refers to and a link to the source, so you can check for yourself. This is not a press review: we only publish what actually changes something for people using the metro, and we explain what changes. For service status right now, the reference is still the ATAC app.

Vittorio Emanuele reopens on Line A
The station is back in service after yet another round of work on its lifts and escalators. What it means for you: piazza Vittorio, the Esquilino market and Santa Croce in Gerusalemme are reachable again without detours. Vittorio Emanuele is, however, one of the central Line A stops flagged for water infiltration and structural problems: further temporary closures are expected during 2026, though never at the same time as one another.

Lepanto closed: trains pass without stopping
For infrastructure maintenance, Lepanto station is closed: Line A trains run normally but pass through without stopping. What it means for you: for Prati and via Cola di Rienzo, get off at Ottaviano or Flaminio and walk, or use surface transport. Expect the neighbouring stops to be busier at peak times.

Seven Line C stations under construction, including a second Line A interchange
As of July 2026, seven new Line C stations are under construction. Among them is a second interchange with Line A at Ottaviano, which will relieve San Giovanni and link the eastern side of the city directly with the Vatican. What it means: when it opens, many journeys that today have to go through Termini will change completely.

The €2 ticket: announced, not yet in force
The ATAC business plan approved by the city council provides for a €2 BIT from July 2026. The rise, however, has not taken effect: the fare must be formally approved by the Lazio regional government, which has said it is against it. What it means for you: today a single ticket still costs €1.50, as published by ATAC. We will update this page and the fares page the day that actually changes.

Line C towards piazza Venezia: T2 works begin
Detailed design of the T2 section, from Colosseo to piazza Venezia, was approved in June 2025; construction design is under way and the first worksites are due from 2026. Current programmes put completion in 2035. Like San Giovanni, the new stops will be full archaeological stations. What it means for you: expect worksites and altered traffic in the historic centre for several years.

Colosseo and Porta Metronia open: Line C reaches the historic centre
The central section of Line C entered service with two new stations: Colosseo/Fori Imperiali — now the line's provisional terminus — and Porta Metronia. From that day the eastern suburbs have been linked to the Colosseum without changing lines. What it means for you: Colosseo is now the Line B / Line C interchange, and San Giovanni the Line A / Line C one.
