Castro Pretorio — overview

Castro Pretorio station — Rome underground

Castro Pretorio opened on 8 December 1990 with the extension of Line B from Termini to Rebibbia. The name comes from the Castra Praetoria, the Praetorian Guard's camp built by Sejanus in the first century, whose walls are still embedded in the Aurelian Walls. On 5 October 2020 the station closed for the thirty-year replacement of its lifts and escalators. The National Central Library and the university campus are nearby.
