Circo Massimo — overview

Circo Massimo station — Rome underground

Circo Massimo is the stop for the ancient chariot-racing circus, now a vast grassy hollow used for concerts and rallies, and for the municipal rose garden that flowers in spring. Above rises the Aventine hill, with the famous keyhole at the Priory of Malta. Until 2002 the Axum obelisk stood in front of the station, before being returned to Ethiopia. The stop belongs to the first section of 9 February 1955.
