Repubblica — overview

Repubblica station — Rome underground

Repubblica-Teatro dell'Opera takes its suffix from the opera house next door. The station is underground, with two parallel tunnels served by island platforms, and has been in service since 16 February 1980. On 23 October 2018 it was the scene of a serious escalator collapse that injured dozens of football fans passing through: maintenance of Line A's equipment has been a recurring issue ever since. Above ground are piazza della Repubblica with the Naiads Fountain, the Baths of Diocletian and Santa Maria degli Angeli.
